Joelyn Walker is a native of Norfolk, Virginia where she graduated Maury Highschool and then went on to begin courses in nursing however, life had other plans! She married a member of the United States Marine Corps and shortly received orders to Okinawan, Japan. After a 3-year tour she returned to the United States with her first child as well as a determination for entrepreneurship. She began attending Cosmetology school in 1999 and went on to not only graduate but became an instructor for a decade before opening her own salon entitled Styles and Smiles in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Joelyn created a staple and hallmark in her community that is still alive and well today. Although she no longer resides in Jacksonville, her salon still thrives and offers affordable hairstyles and haircuts to children of all communities, ethnicities and backgrounds as well as the special needs and elderly community. Joelyn is a founding member of The El Paso Black Arts Association as well as currently serves as the Vice President.
